ArtistBorn 1947 in Wellingborough, near Northampton. Now living in Saltash, Cornwall.
From a secure but dour and religious working-class family with a piano in the corner grew a Happy Humanist with a music degree and a pretty conventional career in music education, clawing the ladder from class music teacher to end up as Devon County Music Adviser. Painting was an occasional closet activity until, after early retirement, I risked joining a class and spent a couple of years at the feet of Nick Collier, respected south-west artist, who gave me the technique and confidence to go public. Free of any imperative to earn a crust from my art - and lacking the marketing mind to do so - I’ve been lucky enough to paint what I want without worrying about commercial appeal - though selling is always, admittedly, a reassuring public response. |
