Public art
Happy coincidence led to me being invited to work outside my comfort zone. Ashtorre Rock Community Centre in Saltash commissioned a public sculpture marking the spot of the Saltash Ferry, which crossed the Tamar for some 900 years until superseded by the road bridge.
My piece, The Saltash Ferryman, installed in 2013, stands looking across the river at the head of the old slipway on land that was once part of the ferry coaching inn [at PL12 4GT]
It was funded by Heritage Lottery Fund, fabricated in Corten steel by Rob Hills with Katie Lake, and incorporates etched brass panels by a dozen local artists.

In 2006, I designed the I K Brunel mural to mark the 150th anniversary of his birth. Again commissioned by Ashtorre Rock, the design was 'scaled up' and painted by 40 representatives of local community organisations. It was jigsawed together in a gradual reveal throughout the Brunel celebrations at the Waterside.
